My name is Jonathan U. Davis and I want to welcome you into the new school year! I would also like to introduce myself as the Assistant Principal of Shiwi Ts’ana Elementary School. My family is from Northern New Mexico, where I grew up with my two siblings. Our parents were both public school educators who graduated from the teacher corps program at NMSU in the early 70’s. They taught us the value of hard work and that all people can learn, given the right circumstances and the necessary tools. I believe it is our job as educators to cultivate the ideal environment for learning, while giving our students the opportunity to develop an understanding of which tools work best for them in the classroom.
I graduated from Capital High School in Santa Fe, NM, and went on to earn a BA in Drama and Dance at Colorado College. My love of all things artistic led me to explore teaching as an independent contractor and social entrepreneur during the 2000’s. In 2008, I began teaching Performing Arts as a founding member of the faculty at The Studio School, one of the premier public arts magnet schools for K-5 students in Colorado. I spent over a decade developing that program and became Director of the Arts, which is a Dean role at The Studio School. Last year, I finished my Principal licensure and MA in Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Denver. I also took on a new position as the Social Emotional
Learning Specialist at The Studio School.
Overall, I bring 20 years of experience in the education industry, with 12 years of that time teaching and leading in a public elementary school. I have a deep love of the eclectic cultures that represent my home state of New Mexico. I am humbled by the opportunity to grow as a leader in the Zuni Public Schools and I am grateful for the many ways that you have begun to welcome me into Shiwi Ts’ana Elementary.
Sincerely,
Jonathan U. Davis
